Whatever words you use to describe the ultimate getaway, you will find them at The March House in the remote area of Mal Pais, Costa Rica. This luxury rental beach house is the perfect escape for those seeking discreet, yet plush accommodations in a tranquil, natural environment that blurs the lines between indoors and out. The 2 ½ acre property is surrounded by tropically landscaped gardens, affording a high degree of privacy.
Designed in a modern, yet minimalist style, the five bedroom house features a large open plan layout with living, seating, dining and kitchen areas that flow onto a patio facing the beach, which is just 75 meters away. Natural, cooling airflow floods each room, and a water trough running along the east side of the house creates a tranquil setting perfect for relaxation and meditation.
The upstairs Master bedroom boasts a king sized bed and a luxurious private bathroom that features custom-made concrete bathtubs with beach views and double showers, double sinks, a lavatory, and built-in cupboards.
A king size bed can also be found in the Guest Master bedroom, which contains a private bathroom with sunset views from the custom-made concrete bathtub and a shower and double sinks. The room also includes a private patio and daybed.
The second and third guest bedrooms both face the ocean and have queen sized beds with a shared bathroom and a double shower, double sink and two walk-in cupboards. These rooms also feature a private patio and daybed.
The fourth and final guest bedroom includes a double and a single bed with a private bathroom. A desk with a PC complete with Internet access is also available in this room for those who want to stay connected to the outside world.
If a home-cooked meal is what you’re after, the March House features a fully-equipped kitchen with all the amenities one would expect at home, including stainless steel refrigerator/freezer, oven and microwave, dishwasher, juicer, blender, coffee maker, food processor and full cutlery and crockery for 12 guests. For guests who don’t want to be hassled with the pots and pans, a private chef is also at your disposal. (Rates are available upon request.)
In the living area, you will find plenty of open space to stretch out and relax on the over-sized sofa or large daybed. A dining table for 10 is adjacent to louvered doors that open the entire south wall to the patio.
Outside is the patio which includes four oversized reclining deck chairs with a large parasol/umbrella and views of the beach, just 75 meters away—an easy walk to swimming, surfing and fishing spots. Additionally, there is a large “rancho” at the bottom of the garden with a large dining table and benches for eating al fresco, as well as two daybeds for lounging and taking in the refreshing ocean breezes. The rancho can serve in conjunction with the house as the perfect place for social functions, parties or even weddings.
