Mal Pais is located on the southern tip of the Nicoya peninsula which is located on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica and is roughly 93 miles west from the captial, San Jose.

Driving Directions:
From San Jose - You drive the Panamerican Highway # 1 via Palmares, San Ramon, Esparza, towards Puntarenas. You have to get into downtown Puntarenas and follow the map signs to reach the Paquera Ferry Boat.

The ferry ride takes about one and a half hours. Once in Paquera drive towards Tambor and then Cobano. Continue straight through Cobano and follow the signs to Mal Pais and to Santa Teresa. You will get to a cross roads at the ocean. Left is Mal Pais.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT FERRY
Try to get there at least 45 minutes before the Ferry is scheduled to leave. You will put your car in a line that is forming for the Paquera Ferry. Make sure that someone stays with the car at all times. There might be some people come up to you and tell you that they can help you with getting your ticket, this is NOT necessary, they do not work for the Ferry company, they are just looking for you to give them money. You will see a guy handing out laminated cards to everyone in line; he usually comes around 20 minutes before the Ferry is scheduled to leave. He does work for the Ferry Line. Take the laminated card and go to the ticket office on the corner and buy your tickets. You will pay for the vehicle and the passengers. Only the driver can be in the car when you are loading it onto the boat, all the other passengers need to walk on. For a ferry schedule visit www.nicoyapeninsula.com or contact Lucia for the most recent schedule.
