Words hardly do justice to the stunning views that can be seen from the Hilltop House in Mal Pais, Costa Rica. Situated 500 feet atop a mountain just minutes from town, the house offers panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and breathtaking sunsets every day.

Designed in a blend of Mexican and Balinese styles, this 3 bedroom/2 bathroom, open air house can accommodate six people comfortably and features all the amenities one would expect at home, including complete privacy. Surrounded by the lush, tropical rainforest, the only visitors to the house are a wide variety of exotic butterflies, birds and the occasional Howler Monkey in the trees below. A concierge, gardener and maid are at the disposal of guests who desire a more personal touch to their stay.

The Master bedroom features a king size bed, a walk-in closet, and a spacious bathroom with an outdoor shower overlooking the ocean. Decorative glass doors open up to steps leading directly into the infinity pool. The Master bedroom also features satellite TV with programming in English. Two guest bedrooms—one of which offers ocean views—include queen size beds and a shared bathroom.

The Hilltop House is well-equipped with a full kitchen including a refrigerator/freezer, a full-sized oven, coffee maker, cutlery and dishware for a home-cooked meal. For guests who don’t want to be hassled with the pots and pans, a private chef is also at your disposal. (Rates are available upon request.)

Guests will probably spend most of their time relaxing in the covered patio enjoying the cool ocean breezes from a hammock, or taking a refreshing dip in the infinity pool—the best spot in the house to catch the dramatic sunsets. Two oversized reclining deck chairs are adjacent to the patio for those who want to soak in the tropical sun.

There is also a stereo system, so don’t forget to bring your iPod and plug in your favorite tunes for the perfect soundtrack to your tropical getaway.
